Irene believes that a photographer is the fruit of her heritage. Her visual influences come from her immigrant background which made her see the world somewhat differently … sometimes inverted, abandoned, and often changeable or disturbing. Her artwork explores and reflects this tension between the real world and the imagined and make-believe world. Deeply influenced by her love of poetry and poetic phrases, Irene chooses the titles of her photographs from favourite poems by Elizabeth Bishop, Mary Oliver, P. K. Page and Wistawa Szymborska…to name a few.
